Excessive secretion of thyroid hormone causes hyperthyroidism when secretion is not enough thyroid hormone causes hypothyroidism, which are the two most common problems faced by humans.

The main function of the parathyroid gland is to produce parathyroid hormone which controls the amount of calcium in the blood and bones. People who have overactive parathyroid glands suffer from hyperparathyroidism and people have less active glands suffering from hypoparathyroidism.
